chain.day is a generative NFT calendar that spans every single day from January 1, 1970 to January 19, 2038 — the full range of the 32-bit UNIX timestamp (0 to 2147483647).
Each NFT represents a unique calendar date, visualized as a minimalist pixel-art PNG, with colors derived from the classic PM5544 Philips test card pattern for TV.
Key Concepts
One date, many NFTs Each date can have multiple NFTs representing different events, owners, or customizations.
Inscribed on Bitcoin via Ordinals All NFTs are stored immutably on the Bitcoin blockchain using the Ordinals protocol.
Visual representation Each NFT is a mix of colors derived from the test card, owner or artist participation.
Use Cases
Pin your birthday, wedding, launch date, or historical moment
Collect tech milestones, internet history, or culturally relevant days
Create pixel-based micro-memorials that live forever on-chain
Why these dates?
The project uses the UNIX 32-bit time range:
Start: 1970-01-01 — the beginning of UNIX time (timestamp = 0)
End: 2038-01-19 — the final date before the epochalypse, where the timestamp overflows signed 32-bit integer
